Adult Sailing

Building joy and passion for sailing, the Nyack Boat Club hosts the NBC Adult Sailing program, available to both members and non-members. Enrollment is limited to 30 people. Adult Sailing is guided by experienced sailors who help novice sailors, and those who may not feel completely comfortable being out on the water on their own, develop essential sailing skills. If you've ever thought about racing, cruising, or family day-sailing but feel a little intimidated, the adult sailing program will help you learn everything you need to get started. Remember, we all started in the same place. Use the email address below to contact us for enrollment details.
Topics to be covered include:
What's Going on Around You Wind Direction & Points of Sail Upwind/Downwind Sailing Knots / Lines | Rigging / Unrigging Making the Boat Go Tacking / Jibing Rules & Safety | Steering In and Out of Irons Departure / Landing Rules for Avoiding Collisions |
Space is limited and fills up rather quickly. The program meets once a week, for 8 weeks, from 5:45pm on Thursday evenings, from the first Thursday in June to the last Thursday in July. While there is no cost to the program, there is a $100 refundable "place holder" fee that is returned to all participants at the conclusion of the program. We do this in an effort to make sure those who sign up, show up. When all spots are taken, we will notify all that enrollment is closed.
