A PHRF Primer (Zoom)
The NBC Cruising Fleet invites all interested members of the Fleet, the Club, and our PHRF racing community to join Eric Baumes as he presents "A PHRF Primer".
PHRF is the handicap system we use for racing in the Cruising Fleet. The meeting will be of interest to those considering PHRF racing on Wednesdays or the weekends -- skippers and crew -- or those already racing with us.
Topics Eric will cover:
- PHRF Background and Basics
- Which attributes affect a boat's rating (and which don't)?
- How to get a PHRF rating
- Credit where credit is due (important things to fill out on your rating application)
- Top actions you can take to sail competitively -- PHRF-related and not
Our presenter, Eric Baumes, is former Commodore of NBC and past president of Hudson River YRA (our local PHRF authority). He's been involved in PHRF racing on the Hudson River for over 20 years, and races successfully and enthusiastically on Hee Soo, his C&C 34/36+.
PHRF racing with the Cruising Fleet is fun. From our most casual events (Sunday Pursuit Races -- monthly) to our most competitive (our regional Last Chance Regatta in October), skipper, crew and passengers of all ages and levels of experience have a great time.
And keep in mind these Top Reasons to Race Your Boat:
- For getting to know your boat: one year racing equals five years day-sailing
- It makes you a better sailor
- You're out on the water more often
- Racing is always a challenge (sometimes of your patience!)
- Theres something for everyone from gear, to rules, to strategy, to camaraderie
- You'll focus on keeping your boat well-maintained and in top condition
- The teamwork it requires develops great friends
