Faciltities
With over one hundred years of history and experience as a traditional boating facility, Nyack Boat Club members have made a substantial investment in club facilities.
Clubhouse and Grounds
As you enter, from Nyack's Gedney Street, you first see the club's charming Victorian Clubhouse.
In the foyer you'll see portraits of the club's Past Commodores. From there you may enter the great room, a smaller meeting room, and the kitchen. The large great room -- with a fireplace, beautiful hardwood floors and the club's perpetual awards -- offers comfortable seating and and an expansive view of the majestic Hudson River. A splendid room for our meetings and indoor social events. Whenever we can though, we make our way outside to enjoy the spectacular view and cooling breezes that come off the water. Just outside the great room is a covered porch that runs the length of the clubhouse, with rocking chairs that face the river and offer an expansive view of the Hudson River, our fleet of moored cruising boats anchored in a Coast Guard-designated mooring field, and the fleets of one-design sailboats resting on the tarmac below. The well-equipped kitchen falso has a coffee "honor" bar. The clubhouse also includes our on-premise caretaker's apartment.
On the lower level you'll find a members' locker area; clean, modern, shower equipped rest rooms; an indoor lounge; and our club Galley (snack bar). Step outside to our partially-coered patio with for our Spinnaker Bar, chairs and tables, and outdoor couches. The patio is where members gather day and night, rain or shine for any reason: to socialize at club events, after our races and regattas, following Ideal 18 and Sunset Sailing program sessions. or just to enjoy the sunset and the moonrise.
In a grassy area just south of the clubhouse you'll find barbecues, picnic tables, firepit, children's playground area and members' off-street parking. There's also ample on-street parking on our doorstep.
Waterfront and Sailing Facilities
For those who want to get even closer to the water, there's a 300-foot pier that stretches out into the Hudson—where we hold our much-celebrated annual Pier Party—along with a succession of finger docks where members can tie up when needed. On the north side of the pier is the mast dock (for stepping masts) and dinghy dock. The club has no permanent slips.
Our mooring area provides room for one hundred fifty larger boats in a Coast Guard-designated special anchorage. Member boats range in length from 20 feet to 60 feet. Members own and maintain their own moorings with the support of the club's Mooring Committee. The club launch serice operates during the season operating from 9 am to 10 pm, every day in the summer (see our Calendar for Launch and Tin Tender schedule). The club also maintains a fleet of 4 small outboardpowered workboats for member use to be used in the mooring area. Member may also keep dinghies at our dinghy dock or on racks.
In addition to moored boats, many members drysail boats on trailer, dollier, or racks. The property has space for about one hundred sailboats on trailer and dolliess, rack storage for over sixty Sunfish-size boats, kayaks, canoes, and paddlesboards, and dinghy dock and rack space for forty -plus prams. (Members may not drysail motorboats.). The drysail area is paved. The club has seven electric hoists providing launch and haulout capabilities for boats up to five tons and thirty feet. Smaller boats may also be launched from the sloped launching dock or from our small boat-launching beach.
Depth at low tide (note high tide is typically 3+ ft.:in l
- 10+ ft. at all moorings
- 6+ ft. at our touch-and-go dock (east end of pier)
- 5 ft. at our outer finger dock (south side of pier)
- 6+ ft. at our mast dock (north side of pier)
- < 4 ft. at the bulkhead and by the main hoist
Winter Storage
Members may store drysail and moored boats at the club. Boats up to 30 feet and 9,500 lbs may be hauled and stored at the club. Member work committees take care of the heavy work, using our more substantial hoists to pull boats at the end of the season and store them on cradles or trailers, and then launch them again the following year when the season opens
Club Watercraft
The club has a large fleet of sailboats and motorboats to support our learn-to-sail programs, racing, member sailing. These include: 26-foot Race Committee boat, 26-foot Launch, 6 workboats, 3 race patrol boats, a mooring derrick, numerous RIBs, 8 Ideal 18 sailboats, numerous Optis and C420s for Junior Sailing, plus 4 kayaks and 2 RS Zest sailing dinghies for member casual use.
