Stay on for the NBC Bragging Contest Survival Edition
Think youve earned the title of toughest sailor at NBC?
Its time for the annual NBC Bragging Contest Survival Edition! We are calling on members to share their greatest tales of endurance, improvisation, and questionable decision-making on the water.
Did you survive a surprise squall on the Hudson? Spend the night dragging anchor? Lose your dinghy, engine, crew… or dignity? Sail home with no electronics, no wind, or no clue? We want to hear it all.
Awards may include: Best Storm Story Most Creative Temporary Repair Longest Time Without Coffee How Are You Still Alive? Award
Stories can be true, slightly exaggerated, or fully supported by witnesses at the bar.
Join us for an evening of laughter, storytelling, and nautical glory. Because at NBC, surviving the adventure is half the victory—and bragging about it is the other half.
Here are the rules:
NBC Bragging Contest Survival Edition Rules
- Every contestant gets exactly 5 minutes to tell their survival story. When the bell rings, your story sinks with the tide.
- Stories must involve sailing, boating, cruising, weather, repairs, navigation mistakes, questionable judgment, or miraculous survival. Minor exaggeration is encouraged. Complete fabrication requires confidence.
- Contestants will be judged by the officially appointed and notoriously merciless Meanest Judges of NBC. Their decisions are final, irrational, and possibly influenced by rum consumption.
- Judging categories include: Best Survival Story Most Ridiculous Mechanical Failure Worst Decision with Best Outcome Greatest Crew Excuse How Did This Not End Badly? Award
- Props, photos, charts, broken equipment, and dramatic sound effects are permitted. Reenactments involving actual fire are discouraged.
- Awards include prestigious leftover race trophies from previous seasons, random nautical memorabilia, and highly fashionable NBC T-shirts.
- Most importantly: if your story teaches nothing and embarrasses everyone involved, you are probably winning.
