Bulletin: 2026 Ideal 18 Program Enrollment Update -- filling fast

As of January 15th, Nyack Boat Club's Ideal 18 Program is already well-subscribed for 2026 with returning members and new members.  We still have openings for new members -- new General (Provisional) members receive preferred placement; we have a wait list for seasonal members.  Note, depending on your sailing experience, we may be able to offer expedited placement.

For 2026, Kerry C. (an Ideal 18 Fleet veteran) will step into the role of Ideal 18 Director of Sailing.  Kerry and Ideal Fleet leadership are develping final plans and schedule to ensure we can offer the Fun Fleet experience to as many members as possible -- general members and seasonal members.  For new sailors, we'll be sure to offer you a robust and available learn-to-sail experience this season. 

If you want to sail with us in 2026, take the following steps now:

• Reach out to Ideal 18 admissions to learn if we're a good fit together. 

• Start your online application now:
  • For 2026 Ideal 18 Seasonal membership.
  • Or for General (Provisional) membership, and note that you want to join the 2026 Ideal 18 program. 
    
• Note, applicants for general membership receive preferred placement. 

Even if we can't place you immediately in the 2026  Ideal 18 program, don't despair!  last year we made room for all applicants. 

Or, to be sure of sailing with us in 2026, apply to become a seasonal member participating in our Sunset Sailing program  -- then you can take private lessons on an Ideal 18*, sail a Club Zests sailing dinghy, and/or find a crew position with a Club member (create an account and add your name to the Crew Finder).  You'll be well-positioned to join the Ideal 18 fleet the following year.  

* Ideal 18 Seasonal membership costs $2,500 in 2026.  Alternatively, join as a Sunset Sailing Seasonal member for $500 (8 Thursdays sailing on larger cruising boats), and spend $1,000 on ten 2-hour lessons (one-on-one with an instructor) in an Ideal 18.  Note, private lessons are generally scheduled during the day (before 4 pm) on weekdays and depend on instructor availability.  There's no additional cost for sailing a Zest or joining a crew, both opportunities come with your Club membership.
