One of our most popular programs is our adult Sunset Sailing Program. A program for people who do not own a sailboat yet want to discover sailing, or for boatowners (or their partners) to gain greater experience and confidence on the water. If you've ever thought about racing, cruising, or family day-sailing but feel a little intimidated, Sunset Sailing will help you learn more than enough to get started. Remember, we all started in the same place.
Sunset Sailing meets once a week, Thursday evenings, in June and July. Hosted on members' boats led by some of the Club's most experienced skippers, you'll spend the evening sailing and discussing wind direction & points of sail, upwind & downwind sailing, tacking & jibbing, picking up & leaving a mooring, man overboard procedures, and sailing Rules of the Road. Then, after sailing, enjoy the company of fellow Sunset Sailors at the Nyack Boat Club Pub and Galley for drinks and a bite to eat.
For prospective Sunset Sailing Seasonal Members, we accept applications starting in March. We'll ask you to come to the Club to meet with us as part of the process.
Every member of the Nyack Boat Club, whether General Member or Seasonal Member enjoys these benefits throughout the entire season:
· Access to the Club —including the Pub and Galley -- for themselves, their families, and guests
· Invitations to all social functions
· Use of Club-owned kayaks
· Access to private sailing lessons for an additional fee
· Volunteer opportunities with other members on Club events and special projects
All Sunset Sailing participants also become members of a Club Fleet and are invited to participate in Fleet functions as well.
